Protected trees include Yellowwood, Milkwood, Stinkwood, Leadwood, Marula and other indigenous species listed under the National Forests Act.

Do I need a permit to cut a protected tree?

Yes. Cutting, damaging or removing a protected tree without a permit is illegal and can result in heavy fines.

Permits are issued by the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment (DFFE).
